Auralis Space Milano Design Week 2022

In via San Damiano opens the first space entirely dedicated to the culture of light

Through a recovery project, the Migliore+Servetto studio has reinvented the environment, already interpreted by Alessandro Mendini, enhancing the work by the great master and offering an immersive experience amongst the Penta, Castaldi and Arredoluce collections

AURALIS, the first industrial lighting group led by Andrea Citterio, rekindles in Milan the interest in light, in all its expressive forms, with the opening in Via San Damiano of AURALIS SPACE: a dynamic and original place blending culture, history and contemporaneity in an engaging game of contrasts. It is a one-of-a-kind space, an environment for dialogue, experimentation and sharing in which architects, lighting and interior designers can find the ideal dimension to express their approach to the theme of light.

The store designed by the renowned studio Migliore+Servetto showcases the collections of Penta, specialized in contemporary indoor design, Castaldi, offering technical-architectural systems for the outdoors, Arredoluce, retrieving the designs by great masters such as Gio Ponti, Castiglioni and Angelo Lelii with the objective of answering to any kind of demand in the residential and contract sectors, indoor and outdoor. Through this recovering project, AURALIS returns to the city a valuable place where the interwoven design by Alessandro Mendini defining the reticular element of the staircase is still visible. This graphic signature with a high architectural value has been reinterpreted in the typical red of Migliore+Servetto, becoming a new landmark in the city.

"We conceived the first AURALIS SPACE as a real theatre of light conveying engaging and emotional narrative power, telling the stories of the triad Penta, Arredoluce and Castaldi. The presentation of the products is encased in a new wider architectural context in compliance with the pre-existing one which, between sustainability and heritage, reveals different signatures. Thus, the new elements, such as the mirror discs positioned on the ceiling or the band running along the walls, can dialogue with the designs that have marked previous installations. Above all, we are glad to have brought back to life the parapet of the staircase designed by Alessandro Mendini, hidden for years as a sort of archaeology artefact, in a perspective of cultural sustainability conveyed through the overlapping elements and the enhancement of the different phases through the years", say the architects Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto.

"History and creativity, design and technology intertwine in the environments of AURALIS SPACE to tell through the collections of our companies, the payoff Limitless Lighting embodying the will of Auralis to act as a forerunner in the redefinition of the lighting sector and, at the same time, to become a promoter of the culture of light as a tool to improve the quality of life ", comments Andrea Citterio, CEO of Auralis.
